On the 16th of June, MHM will be supporting the Clean Air Day campaign which aims to raise awareness of the air quality we breathe and look at alternative options that businesses, more specifically the construction industry, can take to reduce pollution released into the environment.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of attention in this campaign will be paid to the way we travel, with individuals being asked to reduce emissions by walking, cycling or using electric vehicles. But many other major sectors, including energy, manufacturing, construction and agriculture, are known for being among the biggest sources of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions.
In light of their environmental impact, many industries have recognised the need for change with resources and learning on sustainable approaches being shared. For example, the movement for green construction is pressing ahead, resulting in reduced pollution and a healthier environment.
Shaping and changing the sectors to a greener path
Regardless of where in the world you are, air pollution effects our overall climate and impacts everyday life. There are many pollutants impacting the environment; from sulphur dioxide, which is the leading cause of acid rain, to carbon dioxide which is known to be the top contributor to global warming.
As a solution, many businesses are turning to solar panels which can play a huge part in the transition to renewable energy. Choosing alternative energy sources can reduce the need for fossil fuels and the stress that puts on resources and the planet.
Within construction, electrically powered machinery is on the rise, allowing companies to move towards zero-emission practices. Put simply, when construction companies utilise electric equipment fueled by renewable energy sources, they can achieve their sustainable goals and contribute to those of the wider society. Changing to electric devices powered by renewable energy is and will continue to be the future of the industry.
How MHM are utilising solar power
MHM Group has launched a new sustainable initiative, MHM Eco, that offers lower-emission solutions to the plant hire and construction sectors.
The Street-Lite lighting tower is a key product in MHM Eco’s range. It was developed to reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption at depots across the UK. Designed with lorry parks and walkways in mind, the diminutive Street-Lite is very simple to use and set up.
As a leading supplier of a range of sustainable equipment, including solar hybrid generators and lighting towers, the MHM Group continues to increase its eco hire fleet, with more than 30% of its equipment being solar and battery hybrid machines. It can support those industries affected by the recent changes to the regulations surrounding the use of red diesel and other Government initiatives, as well as those companies in the construction and hire sectors who want to make a real difference in reducing climate change.
